I enjoyed this book. It is well written and it is a very gripping read. JK Rowling effortlessly creates the Harry Potter universe out of nothing and manages to "sell it" to the audience, making everything sound wondrous yet plausible. The series starts rather innocently but begins to take a darker turn in later volumes. As a child, I remember being really enticed by those dark elements. With the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh volumes being notably dark and foreboding, I think this volume is significant in that it marked the transition between more innocent childish literature and regular literature. That increasing level of maturity was one of my favorite aspects of the series. Death, murder, torture, slavery, discrimination, prejudice, tolerance... the series masterfully approaches these topics in a charming but also serious way. I would highly recommend this series to parents looking to teach their children about prejudice, discrimination and tolerance.
