I am not sure when the descriptions of this book were written (those appearing on this page) but there were two major differences in those and the actual book. First the character was not Deacon Rowe but in the book was Deacon Thorpe. Secondly, there was absolutely no mention that he commits suicide, but he died of a heart attack. Despite these differences in the book, I didn't enjoy this as much as previous books by this author. The characters were not very likable as most of them had been married several times, carried on affairs with each others and bled Deacon dry with their lifestyles and needs. Supposedly at the end there were "happy endings" for some of the people involved in this story, but Deacon even though he was not there, was in my opinion still a victim. Even through what was supposed to be a memorial they were still more interested in their lives then paying tribute to the man who loved all of them in his own way. Deacon's greatest loss was his father early in his life and he never found real lasting happiness after that.
