Taking inspiration from Beauty and the Beast and forging it into a dystopian novel alongside an apocalypse was a wonderful idea… if only this book was executed better. For the first few chapters I hated this book, lost complete interest and did not feel for any characters. Then I started getting Hunger Games-ish District 13 vibes and I thought, hey, this could be something that I can struggle through! Well, Zero Repeat Forever was mediocre at best. The problems I had were that August/Eight was a horrible depiction of the “Beast” and I felt nothing for the weird, robotic character that apparently was the only Nahx beast to have a heart. I felt nothing for this affection between Raven and August, nor did their scenes make any logical sense whatsoever. Raven, who is told to have a big blond Afro and is a crazy teenager alongside her troublemaking friends, seems more like a mellow ‘Piper’ from the Heroes of Olympus than anything else. The only reason I got through with this book was because of one tiny detail: the season the book took place in. Winter; the only thing that made me feel like this was a fairytale novel. The ending was all over the place and I still don’t know what happened. Lost interest in the series! Rating 2.5/5 - @jewelreader of the Teen Review Board of the Hamilton Public Library
