I read this one right after the first Jonathan Stride thriller, Immoral, just to see where Brian Freeman would go with all his main characters and themes. He must have saved all his discarded jottings from his original storyline with a few new ones thrown in and gone from there. It worked on the whole. Oscar Wilde is quoted as saying there are no good or bad stories; just good and bad writing. Brian Freeman has the ability to write well on his side.
