This was one of my favorite books as a child. I picked it up after having seen the original Disney animated movie in the theater. I much preferred the book! I checked it out of the library many times and reread it over and over I loved the characters so much and loved the adventure they had. When I had kids of my own, I read it aloud to them and they loved it as well. I just checked it out again for myself, ( I am 64 years old!) and to see if it would be good to read to my granddaughter. I found that I remembered almost all of the scenes and details and loved them just as much now. There are some dated concepts, such as Missis Pongo not being able to count, not getting the concept of left and right, and Pongo's strength being masculine. But I will skip over those parts as I read it to my "little girl" since she is very strong and loves to count! Or explain that this is a very old book and people (and dogs) used to have some ideas that were just not true. If you love dogs and adventure, or even if you love cats as I do, this is a wonderful book to read aloud to the children in your life.
