This novel starts off with a handful of questions and never lets go. Throughout it all we watch Alex as he struggles with the search for identity and personality in a way that none of us ever have but all of us can relate to. The read is compelling, but as I said, the questions are many and answers, few. In particular, I was left wanting to know more about Flip's half of the experience, about his memories before and after the flip, and how it impacted him as a person. Alex, on the other hand, began to lose my interest as the novel wore on: his angst, though understandable, tipped him past the point of dislikability. Not only did he alienate all the characters around him, he alienated this reader, too. But the ending made up for all that, as Alex's new perspective on life drew me to him once more. Still, I want the whole story again, but from Flip's perspective. Sequel, Mr. Bedford?
