Care for the caregiver is the necessary topic here - how to remain healthily in the moment with the sufferer and with yourself, to pause, take a step back, and proceed with caution. Mindfulness is a way of paying attention, and of slowing down the pace of life, and is especially well-suited to caregivers of those with dementia, people for whom only the present moment is real.
Kriseman speaks both from her clinical practice, and from her experience as a daughter-caregiver, of the importance of taking care of oneself, experiencing feelings forthrightly, and seeking a positive and grounded spiritual attitude throughout the stages of caregiving, from diagnosis to "finishing well." The book is chock-full of real-life examples, clear definitions of terms, and practical suggestions.
