There is no doubt Jennifer MacMahon knows how to write and hold a reader's suspense. Jumping between two timelines and cast of characters and trying to determine how the two separate mysteries related was captivating. I was hooked. However, in my opinion, the ending was very disappointing. She had characters doing things which, given their personalities, they simply wouldn't do. Some characters went in directions that didn't make sense. One of the two main characters performed an action which, I believe, is physically impossible (i.e. without the use of magic- which wasn't suggested). MacMahon would have created a better ending by using the time honored method of leaving a lot of details up to the imagination of the reader. Instead, she explains everything....in a bizarre, nonsensical, and disappointing way.
