Working on a cold case while "on leave" isn't Beaumont's usual, and I enjoyed it. Yes, it started off slowly, but give the guy a break. He's recovering from double knee replacement surgery. In reality, he would be a lot slower than he is shown to be. Knowing what surgery and post-surgery drugs do to one's brain, that part of the plot's not far fetched. I also appreciated his tribute to vets. I enjoy all Jance's series, but Beau's my favorite. They're a quick read, but always have meat and a moral point to them.
