At first it seems the narration is in the third person, but then there are numerous interjections indicating that its in the first person, and that it is being narrated 23 years afterwards. Although the narrator refers to their family members, one get the sense that it is not an individual person, but more like a hovering spirit. Relevant information on the murder keeps coming until the last page, maintaining the suspense. The sense of inevitability, of necessity, and of discovery somehow coincide and are made to cohere in the reader's understanding. Bewildering and intoxicating.
