Fahrenheit 451 is a classic dystopian novel written by Ray Bradbury, in their society any works of literature are considered a criminal offence and “firemen” are meant to find the books and burn them. Guy Montag is a fireman and one day he finds an unburned book and begins to revolt against his societies rules. He desperately tries to hide the book and not get caught, until one day the unthinkable happens. I would recommend this book even though the writing style is a bit choppy and hard to understand at points, the novel carries a strong message about the future of society and the importance of books and education. @GoosReviews of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library This book is a very well written novel written by Ray Bradbury, one of my favourite authors. I was in absolute awe after reading first few chapters and I could not put this book down at all! If you are a big fan of science fiction, this is perfect for you. Bradbury wrote this amazingly and - in my opinion - the most extraordinary science fiction writers ever. I truly quite enjoyed this book and I can rate it a solid 9/10! This is a must to read! @YoumnaLovesBooks of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board I really enjoyed this book because of the realistic social themes that were presented throughout the novel. The author almost seemed to look into the future with some of the predictions he made. For example, the book presents characters with wall-sized TVs, Bluetooth, and mechanical dogs, all which were introduced after the 1950s (when the book was written). The book goes over all the issues that we face as a society today because of technology and how it can effect a community. The author did a great job at modelling every character and giving them symbolic characteristics. The main character Montag, is supposed to symbolize a “rebel” in their society that is realizing the negative effects of no books. Mildred, his wife, is someone who loves technology and is the “perfect” citizen in the eyes of the government who has been successfully manipulated as they wanted. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is interested in a classic novel that is timeless and universal. @avacadojai of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board Fahrenheit 451 is one of the most critically acclaimed dystopian novel ever, although I still found this book a bit disappointing. The main character, Guy Montag, is a fireman, which means he burns books. One day, Montag meets Clarisse McClellan, an odd teenager who wonders "why' and "stops and smells the roses" instead of living at the literal break-neck speed of everyone else her age. Clarisse causes Montag to think over his actions. Soon Montag starts hoarding books he is supposed to burn. One thing of the things you can credit the author with though, is his amazing predictions of our age including: ear-buds, flat screen TVs, video chat, and the incessant use of "God" as a swear word. Another thing is the philosophical quotes like "a dwarf on a giants shoulders sees the farthest of the two". The things that disappointed me though, was the fragmented structure, lack of details, and the lack of reason on how to burning of books was connected to the dystopian events in the novel. If you are a fan of dystopia you should read this book, otherwise it will probably not interest you. 3/5. @mittopic of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board
