After killing off one of his major characters several books ago, Higgins' work had been really wandering, with a number of the books seeming to cast the main character completely aside for large parts of the narrative. It seemed like Higgins was coasting. He's returned somewhat to form with this book, putting Dillon front and center where he belongs, and featuring a compelling, somewhat deranged villain in a tale of betrayal and secrets stretching from Afghanistan and Pakistan to Algeria, London, and Northern Ireland.
