Two movies in one. I love the back and forth between Powell's feeble attempts at Mastering the Art of French Cooking with the story of Child's life. Streep and Tucci, always amazing, provide great insight to the Child's relationship and Julia's evolvement to writing a cookbook that changed the world. Powell is portrayed as an endearing character, despite her self-absorption. Ephron changed the book making it more valuable and substantial with the detailed backstory of the Child's life together. Spoiler alert: if you like the movie, don't read the book. It took me weeks to recover to watch what had been my favorite movie after reading the book.
