George Bernard Shaw, before he discovered the Superman, and IMHO, all the better for it. Mrs. Warren's Profession is a play well ahead of its time, and in some ways, its themes of prostitution, capitalism, and the independence of women are still ahead, although we have become more skilled in ignoring them. People looking for Downton Abbey romance should probably leave it alone, but otherwise, this is a stimulating two hours with iconic characters of the 20th century. Coral Browne is magnificent, decadent, and unmissable.
