As a fan of Cornwell’s Sharpe, this is my first go at checking out one of the video adaptions of one of his books. There are the obvious statements such as M My version of Wellesley was shorter and stouter than the TV version. The TV version’s chin is much stronger than was the version that played in my mind. My cast was much greater, my countryside more commanding. But let’s not go there. The film is much brighter, the men better drawn in the video version than in the book. In just a few scenes the video told me volumes about the weaponry the soldiers used and how the guns were serviced. The video is both instructive and entertaining. Definitely worth viewing.
