Doro is an entity who changes bodies like clothes, killing his hosts by reflex -- or design. He fears no one -- until he meets Anyanwu. Anyanwu is a shapeshifter who can absorb bullets and heal with a kiss...and savage anyone who threatens those she loves. She fears no one -- until she meets Doro. From African jungles to the colonies of America, Doro and Anyanwu weave together a pattern of destiny that not even immortals can imagine.

Butler is so important to the history of Sci-Fi and WOC's prominency in that genre. Wild Seed is a very neatly packaged entry point for new readers and a reminder to returning readers of how truly expert she is at storytelling! Loved it.

Strange but thought provoking -- explores various cultural/historical/current norms while providing an amazing tale of the struggle to not just survive but to do your best to be true to your values while opening up to your heart.

That I am writing only the second review of this little masterpiece in the database is a disservice to the genre. I consider this book, along with Dune and The Dark Tower, to be one of the great works of Speculative Fiction. Tightly woven and intensely personal, this is not the archetypal vagueness of Harry Potter or Star Wars reaching everyone through broad strokes of a brush. This is seeing the universe in a grain of sand, discerning the universal from an devoted examination of the personal. It is well worth the read.

Majestic tale of the conflict between woman and man.
