It is no exaggeration to say that the Rothschilds became 1 of theliving legends of the 19th century: the personfication of a new era in which money determined status and power, an era in which 5 Jewish brothers born into the wretchedness of the Frnakfurt Ghetto could rise by their own ingenuity to become ' the worlds bankers' - dominating the international financial markets, rubbing shoulders with the social elite, patronising the great artists and architects of the era and above all exerting a decisive, if veiled, influence over the world's monarchs and statesmen. Detailed history of the house(s) of Rothschild from inception to 1914. (summary for years to 1995). Perhaps this book is too detailed to be enjoyable. Recommended only for those who are extremely interested in the topic as the book is 1037 pages. Due to the nature of the Rothschild business in the 19th century it provides a history of the diplomacy and conflicts of the time in regards to the great powers of Europe. I think you really want to read this to enjoy it.
