Add a CommentChester, the cricket, has just landed in the Times Square subway station, and he decides to settle down in a nearby newsstand. He soon makes three new friends who are quite friendly to him. Mario, a little boy whose parents own the newsstand, Tucker a Broadway mouse, and Tucker's sidekick, Harry, a cat. The four friends soon begin to have interesting conversations and spend a lot of time together. Their life in New York City contributes to great entertainment. The situations that the unique group of friends experience contributed to how entertaining the book was. Overall, The Cricket in Times Square was a comical and entertaining book, making it a great read.
This cricket named Chester befriends a mouse and a cat after making an accidental trip in a picnic basket from Connecticut to New York. He discovers his talent for memorizing
pieces of music, and helps the Bellinis sell their newspapers in the meantime. I loved the way it all comes together and the way it is beautifully written,. Totally recommend!
A wholesome novel with an interesting plot, this novel has been my favorite book since I read it during my childhood. Starring Chester, a musically gifted cricket from Connecticut, the novel cleverly tells the tale of Chester’s new life in an urban city, starting with his accidental trip to New York through a subway. Chester meets many friends along his adventure, and while living with the Bellinis, a poor family, Chester discovers his talent of chirping songs. With this new discovery, he is able to financially assist the Bellinis, as well as delight the New Yorkers. What I enjoyed most about this book is the fact that even though it has a peaceful setting, there’s a thrill that makes reading it exciting. Another aspect of the book I liked is the author’s use of diverse characters, all the while maintaining a tight connection between every one of them.

This little story was chock-full of fun and adventure. It is an endearing tale about Harry cat, Tucker mouse, and Chester cricket and their journeys together in New York City. There are great life lessons on perseverance, compromise and friendship. There are plenty of little cultural treats woven throughout the story, exposing children to a nuance of diverse surroundings and experiences. And…a happy ending to boot! Fantastic!
Such a lovely cute story about three animals and their interactions with the humans around them. Perfect to read aloud to an animal loving 8 yr old!
