DEFINITELY NOT a movie to watch during covid19 IMO, gawd (shakes head)...The idea of existentialism is carried through this movie, manifesting as dread about a person's existence which is then passed on... like a virus. A tough sell at the best of times. I had a very difficult time investing myself into these characters. Hardly any time was spent to even develop and feel for these people before they fell hopelessly into despair regarding an unfathomable doom at the edge of their awareness. Cool. People, everyday, live with some of that feeling due to brain chemicals being atypical. It's kind of a downer of a movie; a looming threat that endlessly looms. As someone who already experiences this, the escapism of watching a movie to forget is a nice one. Maybe people who don't "get" those feelings will be entertained and find it as art imitating life? If you enjoy that sort of escapism, by all means, but please play with a puppy after or have an ice cream or go out for a sunny walk afterwards to lighten the mood. Heavy handed on the doom and despair without being remotely challenging near the edge. ALTERNATIVELY try this: Consider your life as the flame of a candle, watch that candle in the dark while it burns down, then as it gutters, flickering in gasps near the end of its life... choose to close your eyes and blow it out... before it extinguishes itself (so the suspense remains for you). It is a similar exercise moody teens engage in is all, with the same end experience. I chose to watch "Possessor" with Andrea Risenborough after this movie. So perhaps if you want more nuanced (though a more gratuitously violent flick) about questioning the self and 'what is my life to me and how am I contained within it', try that.
