Great, creepy atmosphere, but a little lacking in the mystery department. While the story had me hooked, the conclusion was a little too obvious. I expected more twists or surprises towards the end, but it wrapped up pretty much as one would expect by page 40. Still a great book, but a bit disappointing when compared to her masterpiece, The Broken Girls.

Review excerpt: "'The Sun Down Motel' by Simone St. James was the feminist, cold-case mystery I didn’t know I was waiting for. It has everything. It has intrepid amateur detectives. It has vengeful female ghosts. It has delicious justice and women coming together to deliver it. Added to all of that, the mystery was executed perfectly."

Simone St. James has become an author I look forward to reading. I previously read and reviewed The Broken Girls on my blog and it was such a good read. She has a way of mixing paranormal (a genre I don't usually read) and such a good plot that I can't help but say no. This book was no different.

There was just something I loved about the creepy, dark motel setting in the small town. The author does a wonderful job creating characters and describing the setting that I felt like I was right there. Yes, there were times I was reading and has to close my book because I got spooked, but in a good way!

I hate to give away and plot twists and clues into how this story ends, so I will just say READ IT! It is the perfect mix of suspense, thriller, paranormal, and mystery. Simone St. James has a way with words that will leave your spine tingling and heart thumping while simultaneously making you mind race with possibilities of how it will all end.

Lucky for you this book is available for purchase today! Get your copy now, you won't regret it! A 5 star read for me!

Thanks to Netgalley and Berkley Publishing Group for allowing me an eARC to read and give my honest review.

Happy Reading!

Not sure if this was one of Simone St James' best, but I still enjoyed reading it. It's deliciously creepy -- so read this during the DAY with all the lights ON ;) Creepy hotel, mysterious ghosts, a serial killer... this new novel ticks lots of boxes and keeps the suspense going throughout!

Simone St. James' newest mystery has all of my favorite elements - creepy roadside motel, restless ghosts, and a possible serial killer hunting young girls along the lonely roads in Fell, New York. If you're a fan of The Shining and Unsolved Mysteries, this is the book for you.

I was able to read this early by getting a copy through Book of the Month Club. This was an overall disappointing read. I had previously read "Broken Girls" from St. James and enjoyed it. I would say mystery/thriller and supernatural books are not my go-to genres but I thought I'd give this a go anyways. My main issue was the two different POVs (Viv and Carly) sounded exactly the same which left me feeling confused as to what was happening pretty frequently while reading. I ended up skim reading the last half of the book to see what happened. There were a couple of twists that made the story more interesting but did not redeem it overall.
