There's a common misconception that seasons are cause by the distance between Earth and the sun. Sadly, this book presents this misconception as fact. It's more accurate to say the tilt of the Earth causes seasons. Correct information can be found on the NASA website here: https://spaceplace.nasa.gov/seasons/en/
