Directed by Gabriela Cowperthwaite in 2017 based on the true events about young female Marine Megan Leavey and a combat dog named Rex, this American docudrama depicts a troublesome-yet-sensitive, uplifting bond between the handler and the dog.
It is such an emotionally satisfying drama at the end that you would love this film if you're a dog lover.

Insidious US propaganda with the Americans fantasizing that they were the good guys in Iraq.

Still, the story works well as a movie.

I was inspired to watch this movie from reading Barbara Nickless' "Blood on the Tracks" (I recommend it). Because of reading the book - different story & author but similar setup - it made this movie better for me to relate to.

It was a very touching story and I recommend this movie to anyone.

This is a chime in to the dog's purpose. Poor Rex was born into this sadden that the retirement of his kind is death or unadoptable. So Man gets to do this to animals what about the soliders' that return and unadaptable to civilian life..yeah we get the shit in the fan and have to live with it...wait till the animals get smart and turn the cards around.

I cheered for REX and the "dog's purpose", for the unconditional commitment. Not for the humans

They had been through the worst together, glad it had this kind of ending. The bond they shared was undeniable. Great movie!

Kate Mara was excellent in this role. I agree with some other comments that this movie isn't a war movie full of gore, blood, and guts. It is about a troubled woman who can't connect with anyone but her dog... and you root for both of them.

I thought the story was true to real life and not overly sensationalized or emotional, which is true to Leavey's personality in real life. The pacing is good, never a dull or boring moment.
A must rent!

We liked the movie and for me I felt some of the same emotions I had when I saw the movie "Lassie come home" back in the 40's.

This is an excellent movie. Shows what women can do when they set their minds to a goal.

I hoped for some action, but there is not much except a few minutes scenes on battle ground, I think the film maker could not decide - is it a film on the woman or on her dog?

The dead-end job. The getting fired from the dead-end job for being hung over. Yeah. This isn't working.
You don't leave because you have somewhere to go, you leave because nothing is keeping you there.
Geez, you'd think with all the taxes we give to the military, they'd come up
with some kind of street sign situation.
Do we know the meaning of the words "won't," "can't" or "late"?
-No, master sergeant.
Gunny, how do I become a dog handler?
Yeah. What do I have to do exactly?
-For starters, you need to stop screwing up. Then you'll need an expert rifle score, above 90% on all your exams, a first-class PFT.
They're not even dogs anymore. They're warriors, and they come back with all the same issues we do.
... he was just scared and probably confused. Probably just as confused and scared as I was at the time.
