This feels like Kim Thuy's Ru, if Ru was written for middle grade readers.

I loved that Hà is a little girl who is petulant, pouty, smart and sassy. I love that she emotes so well and I cheered for her as often as I wanted to scold her. Told in prose, this book is a lovely, melodic read that I listened to as an audiobook, which lent itself really well to the text.

I loved, as I always do, to learn about the texture of food, the way Hà's mother would wrangle her brows in disapproval and all the little details that Lai added to make this book really come to life.

It reminded me of Matilda, of Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry, and that meant all the more to me, knowing that this book, this character is based of Lai's own experiences.

I loved this.

I love love love this book!! It is defiently my favroit book!!! I love the way that the author right the book with verses, it makes it a lot easier to read and understand. The story is also stunning because, you can learn from the book and yet, still have fun reading it.

This story is about a little girl who died and went to heaven. This is a way that she came back to life. They take you through your life starting at the day you died until you get to the day you were born. After you go through your life backward you get to start over as a new person and as a baby. This is a really neat story and I think you should read it. It's also a Rebecca Caudill for 2012. I think you would really enjoy this book just as I did.
