The Skimm Reads calls it "a thriller that's part True Detective, part The Girl On The Train. All parts gripping."Husbands and wives. Mothers and daughters. The past and the future. Secrets bind them. And secrets can destroy them. The author of Pretty Girls returns with an electrifying, emotionally complex thriller that plunges its fascinating protagonist into the darkest depths of a mystery that just might destroy him. With the discovery of a murder at an abandoned construction site, Will Trent of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is brought in on a case that becomes much more dangerous when the dead man is identified as an ex-cop. Studying the body, Sara Linton—the GBI's newest medical examiner and Will's lover—realizes that the extensive blood loss didn't belong to the corpse. Sure enough, bloody footprints leading away from the scene indicate there is another victim—a woman—who has vanished . . . and who will die soon if she isn't found. Will is already compromised, because the site belongs to the city's most popular citizen: a wealthy, powerful, and politically connected athlete protected by the world's most expensive lawyers—a man who's already gotten away with rape, despite Will's exhaustive efforts to put him away. But the worst is yet to come. Evidence soon links Will's troubled past to the case . . . and the consequences will tear through his life with the force of a tornado, wreaking havoc for Will and everyone around him, including his colleagues, family, friends—and even the suspects he pursues. Relentlessly suspenseful and furiously paced, peopled with conflicted, fallible characters who leap from the page, The Kept Woman is a seamless blend of twisty police procedural and ingenious psychological thriller — a searing, unforgettable novel of love, loss, and redemption.

2016; William Morrow (461 Pages)

WOWEE!!! Karin Slaughter has written another winner. Whenever I start a Slaughter book, I know I will not be doing much of anything else. From the first page I am hooked and I can read fast enough. I received this novel last year but I have been putting it off. I don't really have many book crushes but Will, well right up there with Gilbert Blythe (From Anne of Green Gables) for me. Slaughter is just amazing at characterization - as much as I love Will and Geoffrey for their flaws, I dislike very strongly Lena and Angie for their selfishness. Slaughter's writing is not for the faint of heart - it is gritty and dark, very gritty and dark - so be warned.

In this one, Sara is called to a murder where the dead body is that of a police officer. Sara realizes that the extensive amount of blood does not belong to the corpse, but belongs to a woman. They must find the missing woman as she may be close to death with the loss of blood - victim or killer.

The body is found in a night club owned by a basketball star that was accused of rape. A case that Will had been investigating. With high priced lawyers, and other powerful allies, the athlete was able to walk. And if that is not enough on his plate, Angie is back in his life.

This book was a crazy ride - especially an emotional rollercoaster. We get to know Angie's story. It gives you insight to how she got to be the way she is. I am still not a fan of her but I have moved her from the "hate" column to the "strongly dislike" one. I cannot wait till the next Will Trent book!!!

My first time reading this writer. I liked it! I've gone back and started with TripTych which I understand to be the first of the Will Trent books. I recommend to anyone looking for a good crime novel.

This was not one of Slaughter's better books. It moved too slowly.

Crime procedural drama involving murder, drugs, prostitution ring and rouge cops. Part of a series involving characters revealing emotional scars, loyalty issues, and vices with a little romance thrown in. Started off OK but story became tedious. Below par but good prose.

Had difficulty finishing. Way too much repetitive descriptions of events. Not one of her better books....boring.
Would not recommend.

A top-notch addition to the Will Trent series, I enjoyed every minute of reading this novel, including the discovery of some big secrets -- both Angie's and Amanda's.
