"As his final year of high school crawls to an end, Jacob receives a postcard with a picture of Tokyo's skyline on the front. On its flipside are two simple words: "I'm sorry." Although it's unsigned, Jacob immediately knows who sent it. There's no doubt it's from his best friend, Ichiro, who abruptly moved to Japan with his mother before they started high school. Jacob couldn't blame them for packing up and moving. He wished he could've done the same. The summer vacation before high school should have been filled with fun and relaxation, but instead it was plagued by tragedy. What follows is Jacob's account of that terrifying summer."--

Suspenseful mysteries, interesting characters, and a unique writing style can all be found in the book Summers End. The author Joel A Sutherland came up with this horrific book about a boy named Jacob and his three other friends that investigate a haunted mansion that they found in their own town. As the story goes on the mystery unravels, with some major plot twists along the way. The innovative plot and the way the author described the horror scenes really contributed to this book being a three out of five in my opinion. I feel the one thing that took away from the books rating was how some of the events lined up; it didn’t really make it easy to comprehend what was actually going on at some points. However, the overall book was a great read and I found it quite enjoyable.

Summer's End was a thrilling book, complete with drama, a little bit of horror and a bunch of suspense! This book kept me on the edge of my seat, and it will do the same to others as well! Joel Sutherland has created a story that has equal parts of suspense, the paranormal, and adrenaline rush in Summers End! The storyline takes you into an amazing and frightening adventure. A huge plot end near the end will have you second-guessing the predictions you made in the beginning! When I began Summer's End I wasn't expecting much more than a slightly spooky haunted house story but my expectations were blown to smithereens by Sutherland's fast-paced and gripping story. At several points throughout I was eagerly curious and genuinely scared - so much so that goose-bumps covered my flesh and I turned so as to be facing my bedroom doorway, so my imagination doesn't go wild with fright! When I have finished the book, I felt anxious and scared every time I went downstairs to do something. Joel Sutherland did such a great job on this frighteningly awesome book!
