A fast-paced book that is full of adventure, mischief and of course magic (but not to be confused with wizardry, sorcery, Harry Potter type of magic)! Not only do the characters perform various magic tricks and illusions, but the readers also get to learn how to do some of them! What I most love about this book, though, is the diversity and inclusiveness Neil Patrick Harris presents with the characters. For instance, this book features a same-sex couple and I am thrilled that Harris simply pointed it out and didn’t make a big deal out of it. He didn’t make them seem abnormal or different from the other couples and families in the story. Overall, a fantastic, entertaining read, and I’m excited to read the next book in the series!

I love Neil Patrick Harris and was excited when I heard that he was writing a kids book. The Magic Misfits is a cute story that doesn't take long to finish and in fact is something that I think reluctant readers who enjoy reading. I love how the group of kids in the book come together and support each other. I also liked the humor of the book and the magic tricks that are spaced throughout that kids could learn to perform in real-life.

Adventure, mystery, drama, and misdirection, combined with a humorously irreverent narration and a good number of tips for aspiring magicians. It's obvious Harris has spent his life around stories and knows how to tell them.

This book is great for the budding magician, as well as the budding reader who loves adventure. The main character, Carter, is a good kid that has experienced hard times, but he does not let those times tarnish his character. Anyone (young or young at heart) who picks up this book will enjoy it.
