This production is a faithful adaptation of Elizabeth Gaskell's novel.

Wonderful film adaptation of Gaskell's novel; she had the temerity to write under her own name when some women wrote with a male pseudonym since women writer's (as well as women in many other fields dominated by men ) were not well-respected. The BBC always does a brilliant job with films of period novels.

I enjoyed watching these mini series, very interesting and historical.

Good historical context but the love story is so predictable i skipped long chapters out of boredom.

Read and enjoyed the book earlier this year, but the video version truly makes the era come alive. Great casting, and the historic mill setting depicts the conditions truthfully; but almost seemed like a beautiful snow scene. My cough increased, and I was almost tempted to cover my mouth and nose with a handkerchief!

Really interesting to see the conditions in England at this point in history (life in cotton mills, union dynamics etc). History and romance all in one. Perfect.

Great mini-series set in 1850 England. Jane Austen type of story.

I was just going to watch one episode and ended up blowing through the whole series! The plot, struggles, acting, characters, scenery and music are all so beautiful and well done. A great period piece and definitely makes you see the difference of life and struggles. A must see if you are a fan of Richard Armitage as well! He portrays the ever brooding, smouldering and oh so swoon worthy Mr. Thornton!

Loved this miniseries so much! It's a great period piece that I had to watch several times in a row!

the best Elizabeth Gaskell book; I could not think of anyone else better than Daniela Denby-Ashe, Richard Armitage, to portray both main characters. 1850 story reflects constant balance to this day between unions and business owners (now public companies represented by shareholders). Love story is so deep and sweet. It is as good as Jane Eyre and pride and prejudice. Absolutely love this !
