"[A] superb history.... In these thrilling, highly readable pages, we meet Rasputin, the shaggy, lecherous mystic...; we visit the gilded ballrooms of the doomed aristocracy; and we pause in the sickroom of little Alexei, the hemophiliac heir who, with his parents and four sisters, would be murdered by the Bolsheviks in 1918." —The Wall Street Journal Here is the tumultuous, heartrending, true story of the Romanovs—at once an intimate portrait of Russia's last royal family and a gripping account of its undoing. This was written for a teenage audience, and I found it to be a quick, high level Intro into the Romanov Dynasty.
I didn't know anything about the Romanovs...I didn’t realize they were in power (over 1/6 of the world’s land) for over 300 years and Peter The Great’s last name was Romanov.
So, I found it very interesting. However, if you go over to Amazon’s reviews, you will find a discussion how this is really the author’s fictional account of this family, and misleading regarding Lenin’s role in the assassinations.
If you have a choice to get this as a downloadable audio...do that over the CDs...the reader reads very, very slowly.
