I first read this novel years ago when I was in high school.
It's the story of a young woman who one summer in the 60-70s joins a prospecting team. She fends off the team's hostility to women and makes a place for herself.
Recently, my teenage daughter was looking for a novel to read for English class. I suggested this one: Canadian, woman author, strong woman character, a bit magical, written from the point of view of several characters in turn, well written, takes place in the North.
It had a lot going for it that she wanted. It fit the bill. And she thoroughly enjoyed it.
It's a very underrated Canadian novel and really deserves to be better known. I recommend it.
