I didn't like this Detective Green story as much as the others I've read in this series. The regular police characters were fine but I didn't like the story only people, they all seemed rather wacky and unreal and unlikable to me. The story was rather far fetched too and because of that I found myself skimming along at times to get through to the end. I'm glad I've liked the previous books so I can have hope that the next one will suit me better.

Another Insp. Greene story. A murderer Greene put away 20 years ago is released and soon is found murdered casting doubt on his guilt; Greenes conscience bothers him and he looks for where he went wrong.

Good plotting, character development, and motivations. Enjoyed the story despite too many details I didn't care to read about like Green's personal life, but those pages are easily ignored.

Inspector Michael Green's self-flagellation (over his errors 20 years earlier as a rookie cop) is overdone.
