A runaway slave with a shadowy past, sixteen-year-old Persephone has spent four long years toiling beneath the leering gaze of her despised owner and dreaming of a life where she is free to shape her own destiny. Then, one night, a chance encounter with a handsome chicken thief named Azriel changes her life forever.Sold to him for a small bag of gold coins, Persephone soon discovers what she already suspected: namely, that Azriel is not what he seems. And when she realizes that he believes Persephone has a special destiny—she is determined to escape him and his impossibly broad shoulders. But things are no longer as simple as they once were.Torn between her longing for freedom and her undeniable feelings for the handsome thief with the fast hands and the slow smile, Persephone faces the hardest choice she will ever have to make. And no one—least of all her—could have imagined the shocking truth her decision will reveal.

I have a really good friend that has a bit of Gypsy descent, so I think I should recommend this book to her. Or maybe I shouldn't, to avoid reminding her of the treatment Gypsies had a long time ago. Another friend was so passionate about this trilogy that she couldn't wait to get me to read it, so we could complain about the flaws that we found. Not so much flaws, but more so things we would say we would change, but wouldn't actually because they are almost too perfect. I am actually very curious as to how this book came about, and how the author made all the characters come to life. 5/5 stars

A fast-paced, action-filled tale of slaves and royalty, lost twins and dopplegängers, and animal sidekicks straight out of a Disney movie. There's just something very homey about this book that is probably due to the author's nationality and the fact that it reads like a good old-fashioned adventure time story.

I'd wanted to read this book forever, and when I finally did, I was not disappointed at all. Persephone is a slave, but is then rescued by Azriel, a gypsy. Azriel takes her to the gypsy camp, and is told that she is part of a prophecy that states she will help bring the foretold Gypsy King into power. Meanwhile, the Regent Mordecai of Erok is plotting to overthrow the current king and wants to wipe the gypsies out of existence. The characters are really well developed and relatable, and I is a great book. I can't wait to read A Fool's Errand next!

Hilarious book, though soetimes dealing with serious subjects. Fergus is a master at creating great, deep characters and very believable interactions between. I hope there will be a second book soon!
