Maia Fielding lives a lonely life at a dreary orphanage. Maia’s life is about to change when some distant relatives are discovered a thousand miles away in the Amazon. She imagines adventure and belonging to a family, but is rudely awakened by the reality that her stuffy cousins detest the remarkable jungle and are entirely uninterested in her. Despite all this, Maia discovers a new friend in the heart of the jungle, along with an unforgettable story of adventure, discovery, friendship and freedom.

This is such a good book! I couldnt put it down. It is kinda like 'a little princess' by Frances Hodgson Burnett. Any one who loves this book should read that. I wish there was a second book.

is this book really small?

Lots of description makes this book hard to read early on. Maia is one of those Anne-of-Green-Gables types who can do no wrong and win everybody's hearts, which is kind of annoying. What happens (the plot, basically) makes up for that.

'"But Maia fell in love with the Amazon....When she was travelling and exploring...and finding her songs Maia wasn't just happy; she was... herself."'
