Bear does not want to go to the library. He is quite sure he already has all the books he will ever need. Yet the relentlessly cheery Mouse, small and gray and bright-eyed, thinks different. When Bear reluctantly agrees to go with his friend to the big library, neither rocket ships nor wooden canoes are enough for Bear's picky tastes. How will Mouse ever find the perfect book for Bear? Children will giggle themselves silly as Bear's arguments give way to his inevitable curiosity, leading up to a satisfying story hour and a humorously just-right library book.

Bear only has 7 books and is quite happy with it, until his friend mouse takes him to the library. A cute and beautifully illustrated book that teaches kids about libraries.

Another book in the series by Bonny Becker and Kady MacDonald Denton in which the good-natured Mouse introduces the irascible and reluctant Bear to a new concept: the library. The fun begins as Mouse cheerfully suggests new books to Bear on other subjects than pickles, kings and queens while telling Bear, "Quiet voices in the library." A librarian eventually introduces the two to storytime. The story and the illustrations are charming and humourous. Both the children and the parents will enjoy this title and the others in the series.

Bear is sure that he has all the stories and books that he needs at home. He has tales about kings and queens; he has books about honeybees, and he even owns a book about pickles. In total, he owns seven books! Why should he bother going to the library?

His bright-eyed little friend, Mouse, thinks differently. Eventually, the two put on some roller skates and make their way to the “big” library.

Once there, they are in a pickle. Not only is Bear quite grumpy (as usual), but he proves to have some VERY picky literary tastes! He is not interested in books about rocket ships or canoes. He is not interested in blue books – or books of any other colour. He is especially not interested in stories about dancing pickles.

Later, as Bear bellows for quiet in the library, he happens upon something that captures his attention … and changes him into an enthusiastic library user!

A Library Book for Bear is the latest addition to Bonny Becker’s witty picture book series about a big curmudgeonly bear and an always-cheerful little mouse. Children will also enjoy A Birthday for Bear, The Sniffles for Bear and the other titles in the series, in which Kady MacDonald Denton’s detailed watercolour illustrations capture the expressions of the two friends perfectly.

A charming book - Mouse teaches his friend Bear what the library is all about (with the help of a friendly librarian, of course!).
