Canyon War

The Untold Story

This documentary sheds light on a shadowy chapter in British Columbia's history. Rich gold discoveries in the Fraser River ignited a violent war between First Nations and tens of thousands of invading gold miners during the summer of 1858. Many lives were lost, both Native and non-Native, until peace was finally concluded in Lytton by Chief Spintlum and Henry Snyder. Descendants of both sides of the war voyage the scenic Fraser Canyon to forgotten battlefields telling stories of villages in flames and American militias killing and looting.
