“Then they gave me a loaf of bread and told me to walk through the forest and give some to anyone who asked. I did exactly what they told me, and the second beggar-woman was a fairy in disguise, but instead of saying that whenever I spoke, diamonds and roses would drop from my mouth, she said that since I was so kind, I would never have any problems with my teeth.”
“Really? Did it work?”
“Well, I haven’t had a toothache since I met her.”
“I’d much rather have good teeth than have diamonds and roses drop out of my mouth whenever I said something”

Summary
Add a SummaryCimorene is everything a princess is not supposed to be: headstrong, tomboyish, smart. . . .
And bored. So bored that she runs away to live with a dragon . . . and finds the family and excitement she's been looking for.
"I want to do things. . . ."
Take one bored princess. Make her the seventh daughter in a very proper royal family. Have her run away.
Add one powerful, fascinating, dangerous dragon.
Princess Cimorene has never met anyone (or anything) like the dragon Kazul. But then, she's never met a witch, a jinn, a death-dealing talking bird, or a stone prince either.
Princess Cimorene ran away to find some excitement.
She's found plenty. (From Goodreads)

Add a CommentThis series is still an all-time favorite of mine. They were the first books I ever read that combined humor and fantasy to such great effect, and the brave, no-nonsense heroine is someone I still aspire to be like. I highly recommend it for middle schoolers!
My favorite book ever.
I really recommend it.
I wish I'd read this as a kid. I would have loved this to pieces. Like, there's nothing as awesome as a fierce princess hanging out with dragons. This is a fast paced, light read. Perfectly clean, perfectly adorable. It has an excellent sense of wit. There's not much of a mystery, and the villains are easily dispatched, but that's not the point of the story. It reads a bit like Princess and the Goblin or other older fairy tales, where we just get on with the plot and don't muck around with the fluff, be it description or internal development. I can appreciate a straight-as-an-arrow fantasy sometimes, and this is pretty much as straight as it gets.
My favorite book ever!
A funny, interesting story about a different kind of princess. Cimorene asks a dragon to take her as its princess, melts wizards, sends away knights and princes attempting to rescue her, and just generally breaks all the traditional fairy tale rules. Though listed as teen fiction, I would say kids could read it too. No romance whatsoever. Definitely recommend this series.
This story fulfills that wistful thought of many girls reading classic fairy-tales; "why can't the princess and the dragon live together and be best friends without dumb knights ruining everything?"
Princess Cimorene is the strong, independent hero for just such little girls.
I don't usually like fantasy books, but I LOVED this book. It's not your typical fantasy book with a damsel in distress. I would say if you like funny book with a strong female character you need to read this!
humor, satire, intrigue, a fun book to read to your kids. can easily lead to conversations on social roles and expectations.
This is one of my favourite books! It's the first fantasy series that I truly fell in love with. If you're a fan of strong female characters and authors like Tamora Pierce and Mercedes Lackey you should definitely try this book.
verry funny book and a verry funny way of getting rid of sutors
