On their way to the farm, the family stops at a hotel for the night. In the morning, when Liz checks on her sleeping children, all of her anxiety from the day before comes roaring back to life: Ally and Reid are nowhere to be found. This book had a lot of tension that drew me in and kept me wondering. But ultimately it's not the most satisfying thriller I've read. I think the characters are hard to connect with and I didn't necessarily care how things ultimately would play out for them as much as I should have.

I thought this would be appropriate for me to quote, from page 336 in the Acknowledgments section: "Librarians and libraries are another precious resource. In those hallowed halls I became a reader and a future author. Thank you, librarians, for the work you do; thank you for taking a chance on me."
