Lucky O'Toole-head of customer relations at the Babylon, premier mega-resort on the Vegas Strip-thinks she's ready for anything. But then the Babylon hosts a national competition, Vegas's Last Chef Standing, and the Babylon's top chef (and Lucky's lover), Jean-Charles Bouclet, is one of the six contestants in the final cook-off. Lucky is feeling the heat as she tries to corral temperamental chefs, unhappy kitchen staff, jealous waitstaff, and pretentious food critics.When one of the Last Chef Standing contestants turns up dead-killed with a smoking gun-Lucky thinks it's ironic, but turns the matter over to Detective Romeo of the Metropolitan Police Department. However, when Romeo discovers everyone seemed to have a knife to grind with the dead chef, including Jean-Charles, Lucky takes it personally. And she is forced to face the realities that family comes with obligations, friends come with disappointment, and lovers come with baggage.
