"Circumstances being what they are, I haven't had the opportunity to fall in love..." k
-- Maxon pg. 115
"Ladies and gentlemen, please join me in sending off America Singer, our favorite Daughter of Illea!"
"One can never help being born into perfection" i whispered.
He came close, wrapping an arm around my waist so that we faced each other. His nose tickled mine. He ran his fingers across my check so gently it seemed he was afraid i might break.
"No, i don't suppose you can,'' He breathed
With his hand holding my face towards his he lowered his lips to mine and gave me the faintest whisper of a kiss.
Something about the tentativeness of it made me feel beautiful. Without a word, i could understand how excited he was to have this moment, but then afraid at the same time. And deeper then any of that, i sensed that he adored me."
"True love is usually the most inconvenient kind."
"No, I'm not choosing him or you. I'm choosing me."
"You get confused by crying women, I get confused by walks with princes."
"Knee-jerk reaction. Literally. I kneed His Majesty in the thigh. Hard."
It is just so hilarious the prince's reaction after she does that.

America Singer has been near the bottom her whole life. But when she has the chance to move straight to the top her friends and family encourage her to do it. Only catch if the prince likes her she will be queen someday.
This book starts out with a caste system based on how much money you have. The girl america singer is her name, she is in love with someone in a lower cast. When the selection is announced (which is a choice the prince has to make to make the love of his life through a random draw of 35 girls) she is forced to sign up. Out of all the girls in the country she is one out of 35 of the girls. All the girls will compete for the prince.
Who will be Prince Maxon's fiancee? Of course not America Singer, only a five who loves to perform. Everyone's joining the contest so what chance would there be for her to be chosen? None, it would seem. For the sake of her mother America enters the contest only to find out she's been put in an arena to fight for the prince's love. Who will win Maxon's heart?
America Singer, a five in the war-ruined country Illea, enters a contest to go be Prince Maxon's "darling". She thinks ugh. Her mother thinks aww. So she enters the contest for her mother. (the rest is spoiler alert) At the castle, she makes friends and enemies. She wants to be Maxon"s friend instead of lover. Make sure to read the next book, The Elite.
Coarse Language: Very small amount but still there. Not horrible words though.
