Daughter loves the Sally Sutton construction books - lots of fun rhyming text and noises. Dad loves to read with her and make the noises really come alive. Good for ages 1+ and even better as we got closer to 2.

I was impressed by how thoroughly it goes over the steps to build a road. Lots of fun sounds on each page to read!

This is the it-the best road vehicle book of them all! Perfect rhymes, rhythms and lots of clear illistrations. There is a depth to this work-exploring all that goes into creating a highway-lots of different jobs as well as vehicles. Lots of women and men working on this highway! Plus a great little visual glossary for those who can't tell their grader from their front end loader.

Such a fun book for reading aloud to a group or to just one! "Roadwork" contains short accounts of each phase of road-building, from planning to rolling tar to planting trees, told with a pleasant cadence and simple rhyme. Action verbs plus onomatopoeic descriptors keep the narrative moving rapidly (BUMP! WHUMP! WHOP!) and Brian Lovelock's bright watercolor illustrations make the book ideal for sharing. A picture glossary even states the name and facts of each machine. My 15 month old loves our copy from the library so much I might have to buy it!

Seal the road. Seal the road. Make it hot and squishy. Spread the sticky tar and stones. Sploshy! Splashy! Splishy!
