Worse than it's novel which was outrageously bad. Skip it. It's a pathetic waste of time.

The Mortal Instruments Movie:
Worst. Movie. Ever. Okay, when I first watched this movie, I hadn't read the book, so I'll admit, I liked it a lot. I didn't really understand some parts, but overall, I liked the romance, the action and the plot twists. Since I liked the movie, it inspired me to read the books. I read the first book. The movie kind of ruined reading the book because I was imagining the characters how they were I the movie, and already knew the main plot twist, but I loved the book nevertheless. Then, I re-watched the movie and realized how absolutely terrible it was! The Mortal Instruments is about a girl named Clary who finds out that she is a Shadowhunter (someone who protects the world from the supernatural), and has to adjust to a new Ed with monsters and creatures she had no prior knowledge of their existence. Along the way, she meets characters like Alec, Isabelle, and Jace, who she falls in love with. The romance of the movie was really missing something. It wasn't as heartfelt as in the book; it looked really cheesy and rushed, as if you didn't believe the actors were really in love. The movie itself was also very rushed. The whole buildup of the plot was shortened, and left out major dialogue from the book that left the viewer confused at ares of the film. (I won't say what dialogue specifically, because I don't want to spoil it.) Overall, after reading the book and watching the movie, I thought to myself, "How did I even like this movie in the first place?" I wouldn't recommend this movie to anyone. I highly recommend you to read the book, because the book was amazing, but please don't watch the movie. Only watch the movie if you read the book prior to watching it, because it won't be as bad. Unless you are an adult and/or are never planning on reading the book no matter how good it is (it really is good), then you can watch the movie. You might even like it as I did. But I suggest if you really want to get into the series, don't watch the movie----READ THE BOOK.

While not a perfect rendition of the Book, City of Bones still has a certain appeal to it.

Definitely a B movie, although it's quite entertaining. Mega-doses of violence and aggression are balanced out with sappy love songs and a night-blooming garden scene that could have come straight out of Beauty and the Beast. There are several glaring inconsistencies in the plot, and the decision-making process that Jace and Clary use is anything but logical. Lily Collins as Clary is lovely to look at, but nothing like the plucky, petite tomboy with the headful of tousled red curls described in the book. I felt that Isabelle, Jace and Alec were miscast...not nearly glamorous enough. However, Simon was credible, and Godfrey Gao as Magnus Bane did not disappoint.

Just went and watched it not knowing what the story was about and I actually liked this movie, I thought it was very entertaining, and can see why teens like these books.

This is another take on demons, angels, vampires and werewolves. But a disappointing take. For 2 hours I was hoping something will happen to elevate the film to a higher level. It never came. Teenagers will find it more entertaining.
