A story of a boy who discovered he was born with an extraordinary talent and has to figure out who he can trust. Great cast of characters with a likeable, kind-hearted hero. The ending is surprising touching for a light read. Though the plot is simple and straightforward, it will still hold reade... Read More »

This is a wonderful exciting book that had me on the edge of my seat for the whole time. The book is about a boy in New York who gets recruited by an organization called Sentia. He gets told that he is a descendent of very famous hypnotizers, and he has the same ability. I would recommend this book for anyone aged 9-14, as it is a great book written by an even better author. The book also has some added humour to make it even more enjoyable. Overall, this book is a very good read I highly recommend it.

In this thrilling and mysterious series by my favorite author, a middle-schooler discovers that he has powers that he used to believe only belonged in cartoons and fake onstage acts. Now suddenly hurled into the world of hypnotists (aka mind benders) he has taken to like a moth to the brightest lamp and has accepted the mentorship of Dr. Elias Mako, the most respected figure in New York City. But things get tricky and what his powers are going to be used for, only Jax can decide what is more important. The lives of his loved ones, or the right thing? The series will take you on a bullet train through the world of mind benders and will be sure to catch your attention as you look up from the book and realize it is 3 o’clock in the morning.

Good book, The only problem is the cliff hanger ending. What happens to Tommy? (unless there's going to be another book about Tommy. If THAT book has a cliff hanger, then I'll quit life*)

*that's metaphorical

Interest level: ages 10-12. Jackson has always been able to persuade people to do what he wants. Little does he know he’s the descendant of two of the most powerful hypnotists in history. When he starts attending the Sentia Institute to learn how to control his power, a thrilling adventure ensues.

The Hypnotists, by Gordon Korman is about a boy who can make you do what he wants. Jackson Opus is a hypnotist, and only is colour-blind friend Tommy seems to be immune to it. He is hired to go to the Sentia Institute to learn to improve his ability to hypnotise people. There is some action and it is pretty humourous. We would recommend it for ages 8-12.
