A little girl asks her parents for a pet, and her parents agree, with one condition: the girl must do a scientific study to decide which kind of pet is best. In a series of short, witty, poems, the girl reports her unpleasant - and hilariously gross - findings: cats scratch, ponies kick, monkeys fling poop, and hippos have stinky breath. ("Chances of getting a hippo: Zippo.") Maybe pets aren't such a great idea after all - better to get a microscope instead. Whimsical, stylised illustrations add an extra layer of humour, and the rhyming verses are perfectly suited for reading out loud. Can't get enough gross-out poetry?
