(*Gustav Klimt quote*) - "I am a painter who paints day after day from morning to night. Whoever wants to know something about me, ought to look carefully at my pictures."

Born on the outskirts of Vienna, Austria (1862) - Gustav Klimt was a symbolist painter and one of the most prominent and influential members of the Vienna Secession movement.

Klimt is noted for his paintings, murals, sketches, and other objets d'art. Klimt's primary subject was the female body, and his works are marked by a frank eroticism.

In addition to his figurative works, which include allegories and portraits, he painted landscapes, as well. Among the artists of the Vienna Secession - Klimt was the one most inspired by Japanese art and its methods.

Compiled by Gilles Neret - This compact volume of reproductions and text covers the life and works of Gustav Klimt quite thoroughly. (*Watch "Gustav Klimt" art-tour video*)

*Note* - In 1918 - Gustav Klimt (55 at the time) died from contracting pneumonia.
