NOS4A2 is a spine-tingling novel of supernatural suspense from master of horror Joe Hill, the New York Times bestselling author of Heart-Shaped Box and Horns.

Victoria McQueen has a secret gift for finding things: a misplaced bracelet, a missing photograph, answers to unanswerable questions. On her Raleigh Tuff Burner bike, she makes her way to a rickety covered bridge that, within moments, takes her wherever she needs to go, whether it's across Massachusetts or across the country.

Charles Talent Manx has a way with children. He likes to take them for rides in his 1938 Rolls-Royce Wraith with the NOS4A2 vanity plate. With his old car, he can slip right out of the everyday world, and onto the hidden roads that transport them to an astonishing - and terrifying - playground of amusements he calls "Christmasland."

Then, one day, Vic goes looking for trouble--and finds Manx. That was a lifetime ago. Now Vic, the only kid to ever escape Manx's unmitigated evil, is all grown up and desperate to forget. But Charlie Manx never stopped thinking about Victoria McQueen. He's on the road again and he's picked up a new passenger: Vic's own son.

Exclusive to the print editions of NOS4A2 are more than 15 illustrations by award-winning Locke & Key artist Gabriel Rodr#65533;guez.

This book was always on the shelf in the library and I looked at it so many times before it registered.... N0S4A2..... Nosferatu. Oh my god. I had to suddenly read it. I am glad I did, because this was one hell of a ride. I loved the protagonist and I really rooted for her. This book was creepy, thrilling, and despite it's literal length, was a really quick read. I enjoyed it even more than Heart Shaped Box. Joe Hill is one I will return to again and again!

Thought I'd try his books as I have read all of his father's (S.K). Wasn't disappointed, will read more.

Great book and worth a listen! Bridges the worlds of Stephen King and his son Joe Hill.

Wow!! I'm definitely a new fan of Joe Hill.
NOS4A2 was a thrilling ride. I can definitely see Hill's relation to King in his writing. However, his voice is certainly his own, and I enjoyed his storytelling very much.
The idea behind NOS4A2 was very intriguing. I found the concept of inscapes to be fascinating. The idea that we all have the power to bring life to our thought worlds is definitely inspiring to a want to be writer.
The characters all felt real and well developed. I always enjoy a good flawed character, and boy were they all deliciously flawed.
Manx was terrifying and complex, my favorite combination in a villain.
I would definitely recommend this to any fan of King or just anyone looking to be creeped out and willing to never view Christmas ornaments or enjoy the smell of gingerbread the same way again.

There is so much within N0S4A2 that I loved that it is impeccably difficult to put into words. The characters alone make this one a fantastic read; I am adding Vic McQueen and Maggie to my list of favorite literary characters. I would play scrabble and discuss libraries with Maggie any day!
Now onto the elephant in the room- our villain- Charles Talent Manx III aka Charlie Manx aka N0S4A2 aka The Wraith.
He is everything you could ever want in a creepy, evil man: pale, veiny face with bulging eyes and brown, decaying teeth. He is as it is physically possible to being actual Nosferatu as it comes. With him comes the promise of the permanent voyage and residency to a place called Christmasland, where it is Christmas everyday! Bad news is, kid, you become an evil little sh*t like him.

What I also loved about Manx's character is that he was flamboyantly (is this possible) evil- he bears it as a fact and is just doing one simple thing: "saving" kids from terrible parents to give them what their parents could not. Not to mention, his ride is snazzy. A Rolls Royce Wraith- with, you guessed the novel's namesake, N0S4A2 as the license plate. For whatever reason, I was pleased that his weapon of choice for the majority of the novel was a bone hammer- an object used solely in autopsies.

With a tip of the hat to Hill's previous novel Horns, I reveled in the connections with the inscapes and existence of two worlds; the real and the imaginary.

Really enjoyed the story! And while I understand it was a complex adventure with a lot of ground to cover in terms of character development and background, I felt it dragged just a bit too long and by the end I was having a harder time paying attention. But if your looking for creepy horror with a supernatural spin then definitely have a go at this.

There are many interesting elements to this story. However, Mr. Hill takes far too long to tell the story. There is a LOT of repetition both of descriptions and events. It seems that he really wants the reader to know Victoria, but he continues to give you the same surface level information about her over and over again. I never really felt that I got to the heart of who she was. Also, the reader can see the end of the story coming from a mile away but it takes a long time to get there. Once I finally arrived at the end, I felt that I had come up empty. I was expecting Mr. Hill to give us a little more than the ending we were expecting, but despite the many pages, it was exactly that.
I read a lovely short story by Mr. Hill, "Silver Waters of Lake Champaign." The writing was very lyrical and the story felt complete and meaningful. Though I was not a fan of "NOS4A2" I will most likely give some of Mr. Hill's other work a read based on my enjoyment of the short story.

Great read. Excellent pace, twists and turns, but hangs together well and finishes with a bang!

Vic McQueen is an average girl with a seriously abnormal ability -- when she rides her bike, she can open a bridge through space to find lost objects. When Vic tries to use her gift to find "trouble," she comes face to face with the equally gifted, and utterly evil, Charles Manx. Charles Manx uses his car like Vic uses her bike, but instead of finding lost things, he spirits children away into Christmasland, where they never grow old, never feel sorrow, and lose their humanity to become sociapathic monsters. Vic escapes Charles Manx, only to have her life scarred by the echo of Christmasland. When Charles Manx returns to target Vic's son, she has to pit her magic and courage against Manx's for the stake of her son's soul.

"She told me about Charlie Manx. She warned me about him. She said there was a man, a bad man with a bad car. He used his car to suck the life out of children. He was a kind of vampire - a road vampire."
