Ten thousand years ago, fourteen-year-old Ana lives in Northland, a vast, fertile plain linking the British Isles to Europe. The air is warming, the ice is melting, and the seas are rising. When Ana meets a traveler from a far-distant city called Jericho--a city protected by a wall--she starts to imagine the impossible: building a wall that stretches for hundreds of miles that will be an act of defiance against the implacable forces of nature.

Great book, couldn't put it down. An apt (as far as we can tell) description of what life may have been like around the last ice age. It very much IS science fiction, just not the usual lasers and aliens stuff. Brilliant read.
