Stuart Woods had never owned more than a dinghy before setting out on one of the world's most demanding sea voyages, navigating single-handedly across the Atlantic. How, at the age of thirty-seven, did this self-proclaimed novice go from small ponds to the big sea?

Now with a new afterword that looks back at how one transatlantic race changed his life, Woods takes readers on a spectacular journey not just of traveling across the world, but
of being tried in fire, learning by accepting challenges, appreciating the beauty of the open water, and living to tell about it.

I read all the books about single-handed sailing I come across. This one is well-written, but not as compelling as some. Perhaps that's because much of it is backstory, and the actual single hand crossing of the Atlantic isn't particularly eventful. There is a lot of technical detail which would be of more interest to those who actually have some ocean sailing experience. I actually read it back in 2012 - but forgot. It took me about two-thirds of the narrative for me to remember reading it before. Maybe I'm just getting old ......

Blue Water, Green Skipper ---- by Stuart Woods c-1977/c - 2012-reprint (Non-Fic) ---- An Excellent read: I am glad this was reprinted. ---- Stuarts determined Effort to complete His race' in 'OSTAR', was quite a page turner. At His completion of the race: the only fireworks were Stuarts signal flairs! ---- Enjoy ---- RichardPaul (finished 9-24-2012)
