It is 1890. A year after Holmes's death, Watson--now in a retirement home--narrates a tale of Sherlockian detection that could tear apart the very fabric of society. The story opens with a train robbery in Boston, and moves to the innocuous setting of Wimbledon.

(The first book in the Sherlock Holmes series) Horowitz does a good job at capturing the relationship between Holmes and Watson and the time period. Sherlock has never been my favorite detective, but if the next books in the series are as good as this one, I recommend them. Kristi & Abby Tabby

As a fan of Sherlock Holmes, I couldn't wait to read this title. It did not disappoint. Read by Derek Jacobi, it's a wonderful modern rendition of a Holmes story. The seedy side of the Victorian underworld is explored and exposed and a satisfying result is had at the end. Well done, Anthony Horowitz!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book while listening to the book on CD. The book is about corruption and murder in London. I recommend ‘The House of Silk’ to mature teenagers and adult readers but due to some of the issues exposed in this book I do not recommend it for readers under 17 years of age. Doctor-at-Bass! T. I heard a rumor, I’m not sure where, that Conan Doyle’s estate chose Horowitz to write this story. And he more than does justice to his task. What a fantastic story! Though Watson is given to a little more exposition than usual (on and on and on sometimes), the overall plot more than makes up for his occasional droning. I’m not a devout “canon only” Sherlock fan, so this seems to be a perfect further adventure. And listening to Derek Jacobi was a terrific plus.
