Fools rush in, but they are laggards compared to little old ladies with nothing left to fear.

Nanny Ogg didn’t often swear . . . She looked as if she habitually used bad words, and had just thought up a good one, but mostly witches are quite careful about what they say. You can never be sure what the words are going to do when they’re out of earshot.

It has been suggested by some wizards in the History Department at Unseen University that the rock formations in the valley, in the path of the prevailing winds, vibrate at a frequency that causes considerable unease and ill-temper in the brains of dwarfs, trolls and men, but attempts to prove this experimentally have failed three times because of fights breaking out amongst the researchers.

‘Make ourselves _attractive_ to students?’ said the Archchancellor. ‘Mister Stibbons, the whole Idea of a university is that it should be _hard_ to get into. Remember Dean Rouster? He used to set _traps_ to stop students attending his lectures! “I’ll tap talent from all backgrounds”, he used to say, “but a lad who can’t spot a tripwire is no good to me!” He reckoned any student who didn’t open a door very carefully and look where he’s putting his feet would only be a burden to the profession.’

This collection is for people who are already fans of Terry Pratchett's work, I think. The quality varies widely, but it's always interesting and often very funny.

It opens with Pratchett very first story and he cringes at it but it is very impressive for a 13 years old.

"Turntables of the night" is another favourite in there.

If you like Terry's kind of humour this is definitely a must read. I had some of this stories in other books but it is nice to have those under one cover.

Excellent insight into Terry's 'past'. Lovely little short story in there about Nanny Ogg and Esme Weatherwax....... if your a Pratchett devotee of course.
