This a great book. I love how Summer reads fairytales and doesn't realize that she is living one. This is one of my favorite fairy tale turned reality books.

I adore this! The story is an eerie setting of magic twisted in with depression-era realism. The ending was too rushed, but the characters were great, and I had a hard time putting this book down.

This was the strangest modern fairy tale... not because it was "tongue-in-cheek" but because it is a modern story (or a hillfolk retelling of the story from earlier in the century) that acknowledges the existence of fairy tales. Summer reads the green and orange books of fairy tales and is well versed in the story of Snow White... she just doesn't realize she is LIVING the story of Snow White.

This is a wonderful story, read it!

I liked the 1930s Appalacian setting, but the book didn't live up to the setup of the first couple of chapters for me. It was a great setup and then a rushed, odd ending.

Mirror, mirror on the wall . . . who's the wickedest step-mother of all? Summer's Stepmama, who'll stop at nothing to get a few more years of youth, and a key piece of real estate.
