Inspector Salvo Montalbano is suave, debonair, and a dogged Sicilian police inspector.
Good read. So many Italian names to remember. Realistic characters, satisfying plot.
A Sicilian mystery solved by the interesting and passionate Inspector Montalbano. There is a lot of Italian atmosphere with some very comedic characters thrown in. I smiled many times throughout this story which is unusual in a mystery book. I look forward to reading more from Andrea Camilleri.
The writing of the story itself was great. A great book to pick up if you wanted to get a feel for Sicily. The reason I did not give it more stars is that I had a hard time with the corruption that was so pervasive throughout the police and political system in Sicily. I am sure that Camilleri's account is accurate to the situation in Sicily. It just makes me sad that public figures can be so easily bought, and that they so often never seem to come to justice.
This is the first book in the series. I will certainly read all of the books. Very entertaining.
